The bastard child of the linkdump and the photoblog!

When you go on vacation, you take lots of pictures that you put in photo albums when you get home, so you can show them to your friends and thusly share the experience. Blography is the photo album for my continuous Internet vacation.

Blography is a project I created for school (Denmark's Design School). The idea was to create a wordless blog where I could store all the nice links I come across while surfing the net. Each time I find a site that I want to save, I choose an image from that site that I feel visually represents the content of that site. The image is then cropped in an online interface that I made, and saved in a database along with the link to the site. Each picture/link pair is referred to as a snap (short for snapshot).

Because the blog is "wordless", the only way a user/guest can decide which links to click is by visually analyzing each snap, i.e. "This looks interresting, I think I'll click this!", or "That doesn't look very cool, I'll just skip this and chech out the next snap". Some snaps require warnings though, namely the Not Safe For Work kind. For this purpose I created a small set of icons that I can add to each snap to give a small hint about what the snap links to, and sometimes what I want people to notice once they get there. There's no need to memorize all the icons though, just hover your mouse over each one to get the definition.

Although the snaps have no titles, I did add the possibility of adding comments, both for my guests and for myself, should the need arise. This way I can add extra notes to the snaps, and also get feedback from my guests. To see the most recent comments, check out the latest comments page. There's also the overview page which has all the snaps gathered on a single page in miniature, which is good if you need re-find a particular snap.
